OptoSwim came from an inspired idea developed by Dr. Neill Herbert, a British scientist working in New Zealand. We are a Scottish Company, harnessing the best of British Engineering Excellence to design and manufacture our products to the highest standards.
The company's co-founder and CEO is Dr. Sunil Kadri, who has a long history of working to improve aquaculture sustainability, including post-graduate study in Scotland:
He is a fish behaviourist and world renowned fish welfare expert who has spent over two decades applying research to the development and optimisation of solutions for the aquaculture industry and was a founding shareholder of Akvasmart.
Neill Herbert is the inventor of the original OptoSwim concept and co-founder of the company. Neill completed a PhD in physiology at the University of Auckland and a post-doc at the University of Copenhagen. Neil now works as a lecturer at the Leigh Marine Laboratory, University of Auckland, doing research in swimming and exercise physiology for a number of fish species within the company's target markets, i.e. Sea Bream/Snapper, Chinook/King Salmon and Yellowtail/Kingfish.
